Overview

Limited headroom Sectional Auger Rotary piles up to 600mm diameter are installed by Piling Solutions in restricted sites, offering high capacity loadings. These piles can maximise capacity within self-supporting strata, which can be penetrated at relatively shallow depths using temporary casings.

Product Description

Piling Solutions install Sectional Auger Rotary piles from 300mm to 600mm diameter, to depths in excess of 25m for compressive loads up to 2400kN, subject to ground conditions. Small, powerful rigs are available to work in a working headroom of less than 4.5 m and in restricted access or working conditions. Augers and temporary casings are typically extended in 1.2m sections and these are removed in reverse once design depth or penetration has been achieved. If long casings are required it is often found that using the Auger injection will be more cost-effective (see product sheet for details). Reinforcement can be designed and detailed to resist lateral pile loads and bending moments using sophisticated computer aided design techniques. Permanent liners can be placed to minimise heave or transfer of loads to sensitive structures. Concrete or grout can be pumped in batches from delivery areas remote from the working area if necessary and cast levels can be given to minimise pile trimming in appropriate conditions. The combination of these capabilities is likely to present the best solution in many cases. Piling Solutions are a leader in this sector of the Industry, and now have considerable experience in installing large diameter limited access piles gained on contracts carried out throughout the U.K.

Applications

Offering limited access with minimal vibration and noise, the Piling Solutions Sectional Auger Rotary system is ideal for urban developments, especially where extension or redevelopment is planned. Many projects have been undertaken where upgraded or new foundations are required in proximity to existing structures, boundaries or in landlocked sites, the full range of rigs we have in our fleet have enabled us to install the most cost effective solutions. We have designed and installed retaining structures closer to existing structures than is possible using conventional rotary rigs, releasing additional space to accommodate temporary or permanent works. The option to install permanent liners and achieve cast levels is advantageous to desiccated sites or basement construction. Railtrack and highway works are other sectors that have benefited from the expertise available from Piling Solutions. We have developed working methods and equipment that allows us to carry out safety critical work adjacent to live rail operation, without the need for working possessions.

Soil conditions

Piles are normally installed to penetrate stable ground conditions underlying fill, granular soils and ground water, which are supported and sealed using temporary casings with this system. Piles can be terminated in to clay, chalk and soft rocks or by end bearing on harder stronger rock formations. Through the experience gained in installing limited access piles, Piling Solutions have also developed equipment and rigs capable of augering through ground containing cobbles and boulders.
