Paddington

Paddington – Additional Piles to Two Cores in 1-2 Waterside.

Principal Contractor - Carillion Building

Structural Engineer - ARUP

Piling Solutions Order value – £64,000

Piling Solutions Ltd. were employed as a package contractor by Carillion Building to construct additional piles within the newly constructed stair cores. During design amendment and checks it was realised that the cores, as constructed, had insufficient bearing capacity. Five piles in each of two cores were constructed to a design developed with the Engineer.

The piles were 300mm diameter auger bored with a temporary casing used to form the bore through the underlying gravels above the London Clay. The piling package included all attendances and the coring of the existing pile cap to allow the formation of the piles. After pile construction dowel bars were drilled into the pile sides through the pile cap to ensure a satisfactory bond.

1 & 2 Waterside is the construction of a new 13 story office development including basement, lower ground, ground and ten upper floors, together with roof plant, external works, drainage and external services.
